TIME, DISTANCE, AND TRAVEL

Time
Time elapsed during the adventure is measured in hours, turns, rounds, and segments.

Rest should be taken about 1 turn of every 6 turns of activity within the game, i.e. 10 minutes of rest for every 1 hour of activity. Inadequate rest will eventually produce loss of hit points, loss of ability bonuses, and may temporarily reduce ability scores.

Distance
Distance is measured in the representative unit of inches (symbol: "). This represents different things inside a building or underground in a dungeon than it does in the outdoors of a town or in wilderness setting.

Location Distance Unit Equals / Represents
Interior 1" 10 feet (10')
Exterior 1" 10 yards (30')

These interior and exterior differences DO NOT apply to spell Area of Effect, but they DO apply to spell RANGE.
Within a dungeon, movement rate compared to distance traveled per unit time is represented as follows:

Distance Traveled (assuming no mapping)
Movement Rate In One Round (1 minute) In One Segment (6 seconds)
6"
60'
6'
9"
90'
9'
12"
120'
12'
15"
150'
15'
18"
180'
18'

Any mapping of an area multiplies time needed by a factor of 10, i.e. distances traveled per round are divided by 10.

Travel
Travel in wilderness is assumed to be at a rate of movement rate (in inches) per half day equals miles per day traveled. As an example, a man walking at a movement rate of 12" can travel 12 miles in half a day, while a horse trotting at 15" can travel 15 miles in one-half day.

Travel in the larger cities is as with travel in the dungeon, where 12" per round equals 120' per round, again assuming that no mapping is taking place.
