Welcome to Learning to Play Advanced Dungeons & Dragons (AD&D) 1st Edition (1E)

This event will share some of the features of AD&D 1E with you via use of the OSRIC System. OSRIC -- the Old School Reference and Index Compilation -- is a clone of the AD&D 1E game, and unlike the TSR product, freely shareable in the convention environment. You will be provided with links to download the PDF of the game in these web pages. Other links will be provided to obtain OSRIC, AD&D 1E, and other game materials, some free and some at a relatively small cost.

Required Items for Play:

The event will take you through the process of creating a character, acquiring equipment and supplies, then moving directly from there into play. The rules of the game will be shown as the adventure unfolds with the players' choices. You may find that the setup process is faster than some games you are used to, and perhaps slower than others. As we move through the game play, aspects of the AD&D 1E gaming philosophy will be shared. Some of these points are also found within Part 8 of this website.

The process will look something like the following: This process should take a total of 20 to 30 minutes, though it may take a bit longer if you are unfamiliar with creating a PC. That will leave us with about 3 to 3.5 hours for gaming and learning on the way. You will also see some of the methods used by the Dungeon Master (DM) during the game. One of those things will be how to keep your prep time to a minimum and reduce your stress as a DM.

Ask questions along the way if you have them.
